I'm terrible.
OK. As mentioned in my last post, I took a week off of work to get moved.
Moving was accomplished. I rented a U-Haul van for three days and packed and moved the lion's share of things myself. I then hired a crew for two hours on Friday and had them load/unload the furniture. As of Friday afternoon my daughter and I were in residcne at the new address. By Friday night we had bedrooms set up and the furnature all in its final locations. By the end of the day Saturday I had most of the livingroom unpacked along with most of my bedroom, and my daughter had her bedroom at least coming along and her computer desks set up in the new office.
I had to buy a couple of rugs, since the new place has all tile floors, and just doing that cut down a lot on how echoy the spaces felt.
There were a few errors along the way though.
- Thursday night, anticipating the crew coming to load things on Friday, I unhooked the washer and dryer. Somehow I forgot that when we hooked up the washer that one of the water valves didn't want to cooperate. I was unable to shut off one valve. So there are two water lines for any washing machine, hot and cold. They should be Red (hot) and Blue (cold). They weren't. They were backwards. So of course the one I coulnd't shut off was the hot water valve. I ende up turning off the water at the street, but not before dousing myself in hot water.
- Friday morning I had an appointment set up to get the internet service moved over. This is important with a full time student and an I.T. worker living there. The Spectrum contracted technician poked around a little bit at the wiring, decreed that the job was too big and called and re-scheduled for Sunday. Not that it would have made a difference to the size of the job. Sunday afternoon the tech that arrived was baffled at how little the previous guy had done, and while I didn't get the installation done in the room I intended, we did get internet access installed and it's working. Of course I had to spend three days without any access...
Otherwise, when put in a spot I don't like, I keep moving until I'm where I want to be.
