Summary: Sacrificing your heart just for the person you love. Seeing them happy is enough as long as you know they are smiling. How far will you go for the person you love?
That day, Inoo had head to school before Hikaru, telling him that he had something to do. When Hikaru reached school, he saw Inoo waiting by a tree. He wanted to acknowledge Inoo but at that moment he saw Inoo’s eyes fixed on someone.
He looked towards the direction to see Takaki walking over to him. Hikaru hid himself behind the wall at the gate. He feels that he should leave the place but he stayed. He heard Inoo’s spoke up.
And Hikaru then heard Inoo’s voice.
“Ano, Yuya, sorry to call you out here.”
“It’s ok, Kei-chan. Is there anything you want to talk to me about?”
“Yuya. I-I wou-would li-like to s-say…” Inoo stuttered.
Hikaru heard Inoo took a deep breath. “I like you!!”
When Hikaru heard Inoo said the sentence, his heart felt like it broken into a million pieces and a load fell on him making him weak in the knees.
“Eto.., Kei-chan. Sorry to tell you. Kei-chan, I have someone I liked already and I only take Kei-chan as my friend. Sorry Kei-chan.” Takaki said.
When Inoo heard the sentence from Takaki’s mouth, he stood there silently. He felt like his world came crashing down on him. He wasn't able to recover from the shock when an unknown voice was heard.
““Yuya~~” a soft call was heard from afar.
A small chubby boy was running towards them. As he reached them, he hugged Takaki and moved to cling on the latter’s arm.
“Ohayou Yuya~” he kissed Takaki’s cheeks.
“Ohayou Daichan” Takaki kissed the short boy’s forehead.
“Erm… Kei-chan, this is my boyfriend, Arioka Daiki,” Takaki pushed Daiki towards Inoo.
Daiki removed himself from Takaki and took his hand out to shake hand with Inoo,"Hajimemashite, Inoo-kun. You can call me Dai-chan. Yoroshiku ne”
"Iyada!" Takaki pouted and crossed his arm. "Only I can call you Dai-chan. You're my Dai-chan"
"Mou~ Stop being such a kid..." Daiki blushed and softly whack Takaki's head.
“Demo… demo… You belong to me” Takaki said softly.
“You make me sound like an object” Daiki poked Takaki’s stomach. “We’ve talk about this before…”
“I know… I shouldn’t be so possessive but Dai-chan…” Takaki pouted and giving the ‘kick puppy’ eyes.
“Yuya, you know I love you no matter what right?” Daiki cupped Takaki’s cheeks.
“I know” Takaki replied softly.
“You know I’m will always be yours no matter what right?” Takaki nodded at the question.
"It’s still a fact!" Takaki hugged Daiki from the back and whispered softly. "You are mine. You belong to me. Only me…"
"Bakaki..." Daiki blushed while looking on the floor.
“Aww~ cute~” Takaki cooed.
“Don’t call me cute!” Daiki pouted.
“I’m gonna cute as much as I want because you will always be my cute little penguin” Takaki whispered into his ear.
Daiki turned different shades of red with the gesture. Takaki smile and hugged him tight, happy that he was able to see the adorable expression of his boyfriend.
Inoo was still rooted to the ground. Looking at the scene, it made his heart ache more than it already was. Takaki and Daiki seem to be engaged in their moment to remember that Inoo was still there with them.
Hikaru, who saw the whole scene, quickly came out to Inoo’s side and grabbed Inoo’s arm.
“Ne Kei-chan, I want to show you something. Let’s go. Gomen Takaki and Daiki. Excuse us." he pulled Inoo away not waiting for the other's reply.
Hikaru immediately dragged Inoo to the rooftop where no one would disturb them. And on the way to the rooftop, Inoo was silent. And when they reached the rooftop, there is only total silence that filled the place as both of them just stayed quiet.
Hikaru stared at Inoo who was still spaced out. Hikaru expected Inoo to cry since the rejection till now but Inoo did not shed a single tear.
Hikaru did not understand why Inoo did not cry and got frustrated at how Inoo is being silent and keeping his emotion to himself, shouted.
“What's wrong with you?!" Hikaru exclaimed while shaking Inoo. "You're supposed to be crying"
Inoo stood rooted to his position still. Hikaru couldn't take it and started shaking Inoo's shoulder. Although Inoo was shocked of the outburst, he looked at Hikaru and just stared at the other.
"You're supposed to cry!" Hikaru continued to shout. "You don't have to act as though you're fine because I know you're not. So cry damn it!"
Inoo didn't know how he was supposed to react after Hikaru said that. Although he knew he was supposed to be sad that Takaki rejected him, he was happy Hikaru saved him. He was happy that Hikaru was there to pull him away when he did not what to do.
Slowly, tears glistened his eyes and droplets by droplets fell down his cheeks. However, he was smiling at Hikaru as he whispered a soft ‘thank you’. Hikaru felt a pang in his heart as he looked at Inoo. He didn’t want it to be like this.
He walked to Inoo and wrapped him in a soft embrace.
“Kei-chan…” he whispered softly as he caress the other’s back softly.
It hurt him a lot seeing the person he love shed those precious tears of sadness. It hurt him more knowing he couldn’t do much to take those pains away other than offering words of care with a white lie.
“Everything will be alright” he continued. “I wish I can take your pain away… If only you knew…”
After a while, they had to head back to class. Hikaru accompanied Inoo back to class. When they reached there, Inoo took a glance at Takaki and turned to Hikaru before hugging him.
“Thank you” Inoo whispered softly.
“I’m always here for you” Hikaru patted his head softly. “I’ll wait for you at the gate later, alright?”
Inoo nodded before heading into his class. Hikaru took his leave as soon as Inoo looked back at him at nodded to show that everything is fine. Hikaru went back to his classroom gloomily worried about the latter. He was already late for his class and was told off by his teacher but he only apologized flatly and went to his seat.
All he could think about throughout the entire lesson was the sad expression Inoo had on his face. It was something Hikaru told himself he would protect Inoo from but failed to do so.
As promised, Hikaru waited for Inoo at the entrance of the school gate. Moments later, a figure slowly made his way to Hikaru. It was a silent trip home. Even though Hikaru tried his best to lighten up the mood, Inoo didn’t reply to him.
When they finally reached Inoo’s house, Hikaru waited for Inoo to say something before going in but he didn’t. Before Inoo stepped a foot into his house, Hikaru grabbed his wrist and hugged him tightly.
“Kei-chan, please…” Hikaru was worried. “Please say something so I know you are really okay”
There wasn’t any reply from Inoo. Instead, he pushed Hikaru softly and shakes his head while looking at the ground and went inside.
Hikaru was left alone at the doorstep staring at the door in front of him. He sighed and slowly took a step back before heading home. As flopped down flat on his stomach on the soft mattress of his own, he only groaned as he accidentally hit his head on the side of his bed.
He turned on his back and looked at the ceiling. He remembered Inoo’s lonely back. He just covered his eyes with his arms as he sighed for a while.
