Overall, I had a very good (and full) weekend. Friday night Wendy took us out to a fondue place called Melting Pot. It was pretty yummy, despite the fact that we all got cheese, salad, and dessert (no entree) to keep under the $30/person limit. It started off being kind of awkward because Arthur and Andrew (Ming's bf) got entrees anyway, so the fondue wasn't perfectly matched down the table, but by dessert everyone was happy.
We also had an interesting conversation involving reading while on the toilet. It went something like this:
Angelica: My mom tells me not to do it because my vagina will fall out. Can it do that?
Andrew (who is in med school): Yeah, it can, but I haven't heard of it.
Angelica: Yeah, my mom always says [something in chinese].
Ming: That means anus, not vagina!
Angelica: Oh.
Lessons of the night? 1) Don't read on the toilet, because your colon can fall through your sphincter. Ewww. 2) It's better to take people out to a cheaper place and order everything, than to go to an expensive place where you have to watch your budget.
So that was Friday. Saturday, I did a lot of chores (groceries, laundry, stuff like that) and then went out with Wendy to Orly's for their $10 buffet. Only it wasn't a buffet, it was a taste testing thing, but it was still pretty yummy. Service was awfully slow, though - they're not used to having that many customers.
After Orly's, we met up with Adam, who was celebrating his birthday by watching Die Hard in Hiro's apartment. The group was drinking every time there was an explosion, talking on the radio, or an elevator shaft. Leslie was really good at reminding us of any of those events. She also got pretty dirty talking about the (elevator) shaft ;). After the movie, Wendy called the drunk van, so I figured it was time for me to head out too. I felt kind of bad about leaving Adam's birthday thing, especially since I didn't go to his dinner, but it was a different crowd that he was hanging out with, and it's not like he did anything for my birthday =).
I went to Save the Whales (MUN party) after that, and it was really fun. I actually knew the majority of the people there, because Saudie had also invited some Chamberlin people. Spent a long time chatting with Peter and Konrad (spelled with a K, as he bitched on and on about) and was really amused by Peter's growing frustration with the conversation. Nathan Chan got political, but overall it was actually surprisingly devoid of politicking. I was surprised Steph and Michael (who are also running for secgen) weren't there. Some old faces were there - Dan Worthen, Jacob Kalow. Was a good night, even if I never got around to playing taboo with the chamberliners.
Sunday I woke up to my roommates cooking brunch. They were having a brunch meeting with the PanAsia board, which explained the cooking, but oof. I think I prefer when they don't cook =). I went out to brunch (at OHOP) with Hanna, and we gossiped about MUNUC, AOII, and just ended up being very girly. I <3 Hanna so much. Also, I realized that I'm so not in tune with AOII politics. Well, I suppose that's fine, because I'm an alum now.
So that leaves Sunday night... The roommates and I went to a Chinese New Year party hosted by the East Asian department and the Hyde Park Chinese School. In past years, it's been held at the Chinese teachers' houses, but this year they had it at International House, and it was *huge*. Long lines for food, but the food was yummy. There were performances. There were so many people. I even met an ex-coworker and a salsa dancer at the event. Was good free food though =)
So now I just finished my milk tea from Chinatown (went with Wendy after the Chinese New Years party) and I haven't finished my genetics presentation yet. But everything else is so much more interesting! I'm so glad about not being a student - I sort of suck at it.
