oouuu! i'm a huge fan of his movies, including Ashes of Time.
weird that they are not showing that, its stronger in some ways.
What makes WKW movies so memorable is his Western cinematographer, Christopher Doyle.

a great movie like this is a combination of things. a camera man by him/herself rarely creates much besides, at best, beautiful video sequences which are not an art of cinema by/in itself. the great example of late is Oleg Mutu, who is a great and, in many waya, an original camera men and the amazing power behind the shot -- but he needed a great director and great script to progress from fair Death of Mister Lazarescu to near-brilliant 4 month 3 weeks and 2 days.

Kar Wai is both a genius director and insightful manager to build crew that is so capable.
