did you hear about the typhoon?

Nov 16, 2013 14:37

I mean, it's just on pretty much every news channel now. CNN is starting to look like the local news channel.

Just so everyone knows--I live pretty far away from where it hit. In fact, we had just some wind and rain in Manila when it hit. So yes, I'm ok, everyone I know of personally are ok.

The rest of the country, not so much. (UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR, RIGHT HERE)

I'm pretty sure there's a fandom-based donation drive somewhere, but seeing as I haven't been active in the fandom (heck, on LJ in general), I can't point you towards them. I hope you pitch in if you can. This is a pretty piss-poor country with a piss-poor government.

What I can do, however, is to figure out how many people are still actually reading this, and how many are willing to help.

So. For every comment and reply (only relevant ones count, and I WILL count!) I get on this post (multiple ones within a thread count!), I will donate PHP25 to the Philippine Red Cross (because the CEO, Dick Gordon, has balls and nerves of steel, and has more ways of getting help where it needs to be than the government). So that everyone has an idea: Php100 ($2.5!) will feed a family of 5 for a day. We need 4 comments/replies to feed a family!

What can you comment about?
1. Tell me something about what's happening in your life. New job? New place? Nothing?
2. Tell me if you're still in fandom in general. What's going on with the JE boys?
(Keep it to Arashi, SMAP, NEWS, TOKIO, V6, and Kanjani8, [throw in Toma and Kinki, but only a bit] please, because I honestly know next to nothing about the others.)
3. Have you moved on to another fandom? Did you move back to an old fandom, like I did?
(Western Fandoms I can relate to are: Harry Potter, Supernatural, and Sherlock. Anime ones are One Piece, Gundam, Full Metal Alchemist, Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi, Junjou Romantica, Honey and Clover, and some other shoujo/shounen-ai anime/manga.)
4. Can you recommend any good JDramas I can watch that aired after 2011? Because I haven't kept up since I started working. ;_;
5. Surprise me! I just want some social interaction outside the office and Facebook!

After one week (November 23, 3PM SGT aka Philippine time), I'll post a screenshot of my donation together with the number of replies I get from this post.

This way, I get to donate more (I made one last week and another just this morning; this is my way of saying sorry for not being able to volunteer my time due to my hellish workload), I can (finally) catch up with my flist, and for you to have a way of sending help even if you're not in the country or have no money to spare!

I'll be checking my inbox semi-regularly (my shift next week is 8AM EST to 5PM EST; that's 8PM SGT to 5AM SGT), so comment away!

:)

EDIT: unlocking my post, so you can point this post to your friends and i can have more people to talk to LOL
EDIT2: I forgot I'm going to be godmother for my officemate's baby's baptismal ceremony (I pointed out that I'm atheist, but she says what matters is that I'm a good role model to her baby. Sure, I'll teach him everything I know about fandom/s and freethinking and gay rights.), so I'm extending this to November 24, Sunday, sometime when I wake up in the afternoon.
Or Monday, November 25, when I get back to work, also in the afternoon. Meh, just remember it's next week!
