White noise and other static.

So.

Firstly, what's been happening in James' life of late?

Not a lot really. Work. home. eating. sleeping. Had quite a few nights last night where I came home and did nothing.. very nice and relaxing.

Over the weekend, I went to Stonewall saturday night, and out to the Macquarie Center for an enjoyable evening of ice skating and movies with someone from Gaydar. Whilst there, I ran into a group of friends, notable dilingerlives. I made quite a few fun faux pas - you can read more about them elsewhere. Had a great night..

The movie we saw was White Noise.

Synopsis: Untuned recording devices (tape recorders, minidisc recorders, VCRs) left recording on their own record the voices of the dead. The main character's wife sends messages to him from beyond the grave; but what do they mean?On the whole, fairly well done; I'd give it 3.5-4 stars out of 5. In general, a lot was left to the viewer's imagination; this lack of detail allows plenty of room for the viewer to create their own suspense. This is rather spoiled at the end, however. I'd have been happy if the last 5-10 minutes were completely excised (I'd be happier if the movie ended at the point where static is "turned off" leaving the white line in the middle of the screen) and I'd prefer to have seen the few minutes before that redone with much less detail. The movie resonated strongly with my childhood beliefs in the Other World; the belief I inherited from my parents is that phenomena such as this (also ouija boards etc) can and do exist - but it's not the dead you're speaking with, it's demons seeking to mislead you by impersonating dead people. I seriously feel this is a movie with a theology my parents wouldn't disagree with; although they'd be very upset by the violence etc shown within.

I've been eating a fair bit of sushi lately. In part, this is because I've developed rather an addiction to soy+wasabi. Yum! I'm experimenting with the mixture, and gradually getting it to a point I'm happy with.

Lastly, I've done a few Jung tests on similarminds.com lately. These are similar in methodology to the famous Myers-Briggs or Keirsey tests. I'm not entirely sure where Keirsey fits into the picture - Myers-Briggs developed a testing methodology based on earlier work by Jung in which he created the classifications, or at least that's my understanding.

The results have been fairly interesting; I'm now an ENTP. This is quite a contrast to my early years - at 16, I was an INTJ.

I'd be interested in knowing your results; if you're going to post an annoying quiz/questionnaire type meme, it may as well be this one ;)

Please do keep in mind though that none of these tests can tell you anything about your potential: at best, they can only describe, roughly, how you are right now. As you go though life, it's usual for these results to change.

Also, it's important to keep in mind that these only describe, approximately, the way in which you commonly act/react to people and events around you; this doesn't mean that you have no choice but to act in this way. "I'm sorry I'm surly - I can't help it, I'm introverted" is nothing but an excuse.

I had a lot more that I wanted to say, but it's all going to go on zhasper.com. However, writing all of this took a lot longer than expected... so I'll leave the rest for later... and it'll all be over there, so you won't see it here ;)
