All right, another quick update just with a couple of links. The Poomacha and Witch fires did officially merge and are creating a complex situation in north San Diego.
Currently the KPBS Google map is staying more up-to-date than the UT's, though it's slower to load because it has a lot more action points:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=114250687465160386813.00043d08ac31fe3357571 The UT for whatever reason has also started to screen comments on their blog, which is unfortunate considering the quick community information exchange that was going on there. They do have a forum but it's on their main site, so I've been staying off.
Wikipedia is also staying quite up-to-date on the ongoing situation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_wildfires_of_October_2007 No word yet on Palomar Hospital, where my stepmom is an RN -- she went to work yesterday, and the area is not yet evacuated, but is surrounded by evacuated areas (Harmony Grove evacuations from last night/this morning) and near the joined fires. The 78, 5, and 15 remain open, though, so assuming things are fine for now, all considered. Also still keeping an eye on Spring Valley and the SDSU area...
Thanks for the comments and emails, guys. Very appreciated.
