McDonald's

Earlier this week a co-worker was telling me how her grandson was collecting the Incredibles Happy Meal toys. I have Violet at home, and Dash and Mr. Incredible on my desk at work. Apparently Dash was the last one he needed - but, c'mon, I wasn't gonna give up my Dash... he's the coolest the way he runs in that faux ring of water...

Well, turns out on Tuesday her grandson, who's all of 3, slipped getting out of the tub and ended up with 6 stitches in his chin...

How could I not give her my Dash?

Well last night, my husband was sweet enough to acccompany me to the office because of an emergency problem that only I (or my boss, who begged me to go in her stead) could solve. After I put out the proverbial fire, I showed him my Mr. Incredible, with dual punching action. Thus began the lamentations of how cool McDonald's toys are today, compared to when we were kids. Back then you were luck to get a bendy Grimace or Ronald McDonald, with that cheap wire that always slipped out of place and poked through the rubber skin after about a week. Hell, I still have a flat vinyl Ronald Christmas ornament that came with one of my lame ass Happy Meals of yore...

So anyway, today on my way home, I figured I'd stop at McDonald's and see if I could get lucky with another Dash. My first tip off should have been the bag... no cool box, but a bag. And then they fucked up my plain cheeseburger with a regular hamburger, but I got a free cookie out of the deal, no harm, no foul.

I'm driving home, reach into the bag for the toy, and see how it's not an Incredibles toy... bastards! Instead it's a Sonic the Hedgehog toy in an opaque bag. I'm thinking 'lame!' and wait until I'm almost all the way home before I rip open the bag...

It's a video game... a miniature, hand held, Sonic running through the halfpipe grabbing for rings LED game, shaped like a game controller. It even has an on/off switch in the back...

Yeah, my husband's right... we got shafted as kids.
