I was at work this morning before 8:30. This is pretty usual. I'm still there. Just puched out (8:38 PM), so as you can tell, its been a long day. And I spent most of it doing something I later had to undo. This company needs to decide what it's doing so that I don't waste my morning and half my afternoon doing something I'll have to delete. But, I got to be a big professional and sit in the conference room for a few hours, meeting with the Vice President (of the company, not Cheney), the head of Accounting, the head of IT (my boss), and the outside accountant. I'm the financial expert of IT. So that was interesting, but there was a lot of fighting because the accountant said the ompany can't do things the way they wanted to. Basically accounting and manufacturing weren't communicating, because accounting knows nothing about manufacturing, and the head of manufacturing, which is the VP who was in the meeting, knows equally nothing about accounting. I also got to write a page and a half memo to the heads of Accounting and Purchasing. So I feel like a big shot.
However, my father is upset because no one listened to his ideas in the meeting. He's probably feeling pretty lousy and harassed by everyone. He doesn't like to listen to me because I'll be gone in a few months. He keeps saying that he thinks he will be fired because of me. He's going to give us both a nervous condition. His problem is that he can't seperate his work life from his real life. Now, this is because his work is his life, but he treats me at work like his son, not his coworker. I mean I guess I ought not to expect miracles, but he is basically the only one who treats me like "the contoller's kid", rather than a coworker.
In other non-working-like-an-overworked-dog news, I've been doing lots of SCAdian fun things. I'm learning to sew, and have made a favor for Her Majesty, the Queen of the East, and a special surprise for Rebecca. I'm in the process of embroidering a favor for myself. The sweet girl who drives me around lent me thread that is all silvery and looks awesome on a blue background. My "device", such as it is, is a needle (like for sewing) crossing an arrow. I'm told it's likely taken, as it is pretty simple, but nonetheless, mine for now, and cool at that. I'd love to put a W on it, for William, but there's no space at present. Perhaps eventually. I'm sort of thinking in terms of the Queen's, which is a dove-like bird, a very curly G, and the crown of the East on top. It looks awesome. I expect to finish my sewing before I leave so I'll have something cool to give Rebecca besides the surprise. I can gift her a favor, and then start on one for her. I know what I'm putting on it, but I want to surprise her there too. She loves surprises, and I love keeping secrets, so it works nicely.
I also went to archery last week, and again tomorrow. It was sorta fun, but I suck miserably at it. I'm gonna be sad if I just am awful at archery. Perhaps there are other manly tasks at which I will be more adept. Perhaps I can be a fencer. I should research the beginnings of LOndon fencing schools. There's an awesome sounding fencing dealy in Drachenwald (Kingdom of Europe, Africa and the Mid East), where I expect to play for a while. Hopefully that will be easier for me, and will surely lead to more fun with Rebecca (she LOVES swords). I swear I'm doing this for my fun and not to woo her (although that is a nice side benefit); she's just the object of my current affections. When another woman (who isn't married, damn that so-and-so) becomes the object of my affections, she'll get all sorts of cool handmade things, but for now, Rebecca it is. I need to look into a time when fencing and archery were simultaneously popular. Perhaps I could be some sort of peasant tailor. Archery I'm told is a peasant's means of fighting. Noblemen used crossbows. So now I get both the sewing and the archery. Tailors have opportunities for advancement because the King's tailor is clearly important, but any tailor is just a peasant. Somehow I feel more like a seamster than a tailor, but it's early yet.
The era of Eleanor of Aquitaine is appealing to me, but perhaps just because I have a crush on a married SCAdian. Eleanor, Queen of France, Queen of England, played by Katherine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter", invented the "courts of love", and argued that love in marriage didn't exist. Thus the best lovers were forbidden to one another. However, adultering because your persona would have is a little much, not that I'd mind it, but I think the husband could take me, so I don't think I'll risk it. Plus, I'm not sure either of our persons is from the right time and/or place.
