The NYTimes came out with its endorsement today, and had a little thing about all their past endorsements. A few things I thought were noteworthy:
First endorsement: Abe Lincoln, 1860
Republican candidates endorsed since 1912 (25 elections worth): 3 (Wendell Wilkie, Thomas Dewey, Eisenhower twice)
First endorsement for a candidate who did not win: 1888, Grover Cleveland
The endorsement of Wendell Wilkie in 1940 surprised me. After having endorsed FDR twice, they endorsed his opponent. Then in 1944, they endorsed FDR again.
