The return of Mike and the Case of the Moment

So, I haven't updated in something like 4 years so I will give a quick update. I'm back in school for semester 2, with the joys of Contracts, Constitutional Law, and Criminal Law. The first semester results were good and probably commiserate with the effort extended. This semester, I shall adjust accordingly.

CASE OF THE MOMENT:

Harrington v. Taylor, Supreme Court of North Carolina (1945)

The defendant, an asshole, beats his wife and so she goes and takes refuge with a girlfriend. The husband finds her, and another physical altercation ensues. The wife manages to get her hands on an axe and hits the husband with it. She then prepares to do her Mortal Kombat finishing move and decapitate the husband, when the girlfriend, the plaintiff, intervenes. The plaintiff ends up losing her hand. The defendant then promises to compensate her for her injuries, which he begins to do, but, being an asshole, he eventually stops. Plaintiff sues and the court finds that she is out of luck because her life saving intervention was not sufficient consideration to turn the defendant's promise into an enforceable contract. So sad.
