So the new nominee is Samuel Alito, who has been given the nickname "Scalito," which by itself should be enough to placate the right wing. This should be a fun fight to watch, because the democrats are not going to let this one just sail through.
On a related note, in Lemony Snicket's latest book, Sunny shouts "Scalia!" when she thinks the High Court judges are acting foolishly (and which is interpreted along the lines of "that's a stupid way to intrepret the law.") Although the judges aren't quite relying on originalism (as Scalia does), but literalism (which is slightly different), it still was one of the funniest parts of the Penultimate Peril for me. But then again I'm a big dork when it comes to such things...
