Pretend exams, pretend results

So, we received back two practice exams today, which were administered in the hopes of teaching us what to expect on the winner take all tests in december. Each professor took his own approach to grading, but we could least approximate our progress in comparison with the rest of the group. I was pleased with my first results; although I don't quite have the hang of this yet, it appears that my initial efforts were enough to place me in the top 1/4 of the class or so. This, of course, means nothing at this juncture, other than I will need to step it up as least as well as 75% of my classmates, and better than 25% of my classmates, if I am to arrive near the top of the class when the first semester draws to a close (a dicey proposition at best). But I have found my way on to a study group, and who knows, maybe we'll be those kids that dominate the rest. We'll see.

In other news, I was able to help my second fellow classmate connect to the wireless network for the first time today. It seems unfortunate to me that I can follow tech support's instructions to make these computers work, but the same tech support people who wrote the handout on which I relied could not figure it out themselves.

But it's good to be useful, and it's good to get out of monday feeling relatively good about things. That always seems to make the rest of the week much more bearable...
