As promised, I'm posting a reminder of my fundraiser drive today. I have already beaten my original goal and have reset my goal at $200 for this drive. Several people have given already and given very generously- Thank you SO much! Every dollar/five dollars/more dollars really makes a big difference. You'll see at the end of this the huge ripple effect your donation will have and I predict you'll be really happy about it. With what's already been raised, I think what's going to happen is that a group of us will get to go to a craft store and do a big yarn buying spree for the veterans and for the critters! How fun! I can't wait to see the resultant projects.

Here's the text of my original fundraiser post- the brief version is: I'm raising money for my knitting club. They make gorgeous blankets for the local VA hospital and also blankies for a local pet shelter. Both are described below. So far $122 has been raised! I'm going to collect through July 4 weekend, then present the group with the money as a surprise. They are going to flip the hell OUT. You can donate to PayPal suzette100@yahoo.com
Thanks in advance!!

My knitting club, the Sweet Stichin' Betties, participates in many charity knitting projects year after year. Here is their blogspot- it's a general club blog, so it's not just charity knitting posts there, but it gives you an idea of the wonderful ladies that belong and how generous they are.

Two organizations in particular that I'm interested in helping with are the blankets for the VA and pet blankets. One of our ladies collects lap blankets for the older people in the VA Hospital that use wheelchairs or that are in beds and chairs a lot. She said that the last time she dropped a few off they were SO thrilled and the men that got them used them all the time and proudly laid them on their beds when they weren't in use.

The other group I love are the pets in the shelter where one of our ladies works. They take donations of knitted/crocheted blankets for the critters and they just love them. It gives them something comfy to lay on and shows them some love that they might not feel otherwise. The pet blanket collector posted today saying that one dog that got his was so happy that he laid right down on it- he was new to the place and hadn't laid down all day. I thought that was so sweet.

So what are we in need of? Yarn. The ladies are all very happy to stitch these things up, but yarn ain't free and we're always in need of more. The VA blankets are particularly tough, since we use red/white/blue color combos and not just scrap yarn that's lying about.

So what's the deal? I'm collecting money donations toward these causes. Any amount is good from $1 on up. You can send donations to my PayPal account, suzette100@yahoo.com or if another method is better for you, just shout and let me know. If you want your donation to go toward one group or the other, please specify and I'll make sure that it does. I'm going to fund raise for 1 month (Until 4th of July weekend) and then head up to AC Moore or JoAnns and spend whatever money was raised on yarn for these groups. I'll obviously post receipts/pics of this, although after all of these years I'm quite sure people know I'm trustworthy.

What's in it for you? Good question! Along with the feeling that you did something warm and fuzzy, for every $5 you donate (even $1 at a time), I'll put you in a drawing for something hand knit from me. I'll even let you pick from a few different choices! Also, let me know if for some reason you want to be anonymous- otherwise, I may use your LJ name when giving thanks, etc.

So any questions or thoughts on this? FWIW, I'm starting this drive out with $20 of my own. I'll be posting a reminder of this weekly until July 4!
