This is for the nerds

I work at Baker Center, the brand new student center here at OU. I had a shift on Saturday night from 9pm-3am, and I was in charge of checking in on the Athens Wargamers.

Yes, there is a club here that rents our confrence rooms for 14-16 hours on the weekend.

They play exaulted, D&D, and various board games...

I was to check in on them, make sure things were working ok, etc. a few times throughout my shift. The first time I went in, they looked up in suprise, not sure what to expect. When I realized they were playing Exaulted, and asked what the nature of their game was, it was like I'd suddenly stripped naked and started dancing: they were that shocked. The look on these boys faces! It went from them worried about me judging them (these guys looked more like your garden variety shy nervous, self-conscious nerds as opposed to, say, eli) to them relaxing immeadiatly. I asked them if they'd ever played Twilight Emperium, just wondering, and they confessed they hadn't, but wanted to. They asked what it was like (I had to just describe what it looked like, since I was making cake then sleeping...) - and when I asked if they'd played Settlers, and none of them had, the mood changed once more; now suddenly I knew more games then THEM! It was such a reversal (though they obviously really are the gaming experts - my knowledge is modest and mostly observation-based) but I couldn't help laughing about the whole thing.

so yeah. gaming.
