Rebecca had just gotten back from her morning run when she heard tiny footsteps outside her door. Tiny, insistent footsteps.
Now, since her morning run happened to take her through the park, where she'd noticed an abundance of vaguely familiar-looking children squealing for their mommies and daddies, Rebecca was immediately on the alert. Slowly, she stood up -- she wasn't prepared to open the door just yet, especially if it was a child, but she wanted to get close enough to hear better.
And as soon as she was closer to the door, she heard a faint scratching sound on the wood. So, yeah, she'd be opening the door now.
"Wha--" she started to demand, but she was cut off by a grey cat leaping into the room and pouncing onto the top of her dresser.
...yeah, lots of staring.
"What?" she demanded finally.
No response from the cat.
Yeah, Rebecca was very confused.
