A different world...
So Lightangel and her husband (two people who's company i truly enjoy) called me this morning and asked if I'd like to go with them to the Hermes store in Tyson's Corner. And I had no plans other than WoW, so I was like 'sure, why not'?
My god... it's like a different world. From the saleswoman whom we took to lunch to the decor, the bags, the beautiful scarves... everything was stunning. I felt like I could see into another world, one where queens and princesses shop for sundry gifts and each piece has a 30-40 year history unless they're the year's latest trends.
But... in some ways I've known that world for a long time. The idea of paying tens of thousands of dollars for a watch or a handbag isn't something I've never seen before. It's humbling to be there in your own shoes rather than the shadows of our parents, but when the day was over, I do think I'll return. Probably soon; there was a piece that was just simply stunning and I'd love to get it for my mother.
I suspect this year, like everyone before it, will be another year I rediscover who I am. And maybe... just maybe it's time I left the darkness for a spell at a time. I like Jamba Juice.
