In the absence of sound, in complete and utter solitude the human ear will 'hear' two noises.
One is a high pitched, frantic sound. That is the sound of your own neurons firing, reminding you that because you think, you still are.
The other is a dull staccato you cannot flee. It is the beating of your heart, reminding you that as long as you can live your heart can be broken.
