beginner in 3D

Asking around for feedback on this picture (because even thought it’s just a learning sketch I’d like to get it right) and all I’ve got from RL people is “the leaning tower of middle earth” and “it’s a bit phallic isn’t it?”.

So I thought I’d try here - any constructive criticism most gratefully received.

I thought the 'leaning ghost tower of middle earth' myself - or pretty much along those lines.

Am not fond of 3D usually, it has to be quite carefully and skillfully done - however, reading Alexander's comments he's pretty much spot on.

Post the final result when it's finished, I'm curious to see.

Yeah, the shadows on the tower don't look right... too faded, but if you assume that it's far in the background, the distance hidden by the hill in the foreground, rather than on the actual hill, then it's OK. If ya see what I mean.

*nods*

The tower seems illusory, almost.

Thar be beasties there!

The faded shadow is supposed to be an effect of fog/haze - which would be more apparent if the top of the hill was also foggy - but that’s one of the things that I can’t work out how to do. I thought I might get away with it - but since both you and some bloke in the graphics forum have both pointed it out - apparently not.

One of the good things about 3d shit like this is it’s easily changed. This is also one of the bad things.

Yer levels are all wrong though. If the top of the hill is to appear hazy, you're going to have to apply a gradual layer of haze" over the top. Depends what 3D program you're using though but you need to have a gradient haze going up the hill so that the level of haze/shadow at the top of the hill matches that of the bottom of the tower.

indeed - gradual haze is the plan. the fact that i can't even get a single whispy strand of haze to stick to the hill is neither here nor there.

ta for input btw.

NEVER.

But I look forward to it. That's a better way of saying it. I think. Sort of.
