Perhaps something we as Humanity need to look into?

The ABC Nightly News reports that Autism is skyrocketing in American youth.

Perhaps we should be looking into this, as to not completely handicap the American people in 2 generations?

Yeah. That sounds important. About 1/100? That's over a 50% gain since the 1990's...

I know I wouldn't keep a child who was Autistic.

Why do you say that? :\

Because I've seen first hand the trauma and heartache that it takes to care for a mentally handicapped child. My Uncle [whom my Mother supports] is heavily retarded, and my close friend Lenny has a brother who is heavily Autistic and has many many complications from it, it's a miracle that the child's lived to be 18. He creates such strain on Lenny and his family, that it breaks my heart.

Also, I don't think that I nor my child would want to live like such. Like I said, I wouldn't.

Same reason I would keep a child born with AIDS [although that in itself would be leading to some weird questions] blindness, etc. I cannot imagine how horrible that would be living like that.

Regardless, I know "Oh, but they wouldn't know it as that bad." but that isn't my point. Call me a Darwinist, but I [esp. that I am the sole bearer of my bloodline] would not and could not allow my child to be Autistic/Retarded/Severely Handicapped.

Sorry, but I think the vast majority of these "autism" cases are just bad parenting. Yes, autism is a real disease and it can cause tremendous suffering for the people who truly have it, but I think that most of the cases out there are parents who don't feel like disciplining their kids and want an excuse for their shitty behavior.

And although a moot point because I don't want kids period, I wouldn't keep a child with a severe disability, either. I know what it's like to have to deal with chronic illnesses, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, let alone someone I'm supposed to love more than anything in the world.

I only hope that is the case. I was starting to believe it's Mother Nature's way of laughing at/punishing Humanity.
