Things I hate about traveling:
- Sunburn and the inability to escape the sun while hitchhiking.
- No showers.
- Waking up to sprinklers at 5-6 in the morning.
- Always being in public and therefore not being able to look at Tumblr, Strike Gently, or Space Ghetto.
- Sore shoulders from my pack.
- Never being alone.
- Kara having to go to the bathroom all the time.
- Scumfucks and Juggalos.
- Every different town and city's late-night bar scene and how you can't escape it.
- Only being able to update LiveJournal during Starbucks' open hours.
- Mosquito and/or spider bites.
- Nowhere to masturbate.
- "Rest rooms are for paying customers only."
- The rare occasions that cops speak to me and try to tell me what to do.
- No bike rides.
- Being so far away from the rest of my friends.
Things I love about traveling:
- Endless adventure and unexpectedness.
- Seeing the good sides of the human race.
- Sleeping outside.
- It's free and freeing.
- Getting around in itself is exercise.
- Vegans are better catered to outside of my hometown.
- Pretty views and breathtaking sunrises/sunsets.
- Seeing animals I've never seen before.
- Watching pigeons, crows, seagulls, and grackles.
- Never being alone.
- Being with my best friend every single day.
- Fountains.
- Being closer and more intimately involved with large bodies of nature.
- Vegan pizza is everywhere.
- Being able to leave whenever you want; being able to never see someone ever again whenever you want.
- Being closer and more intimately involved with local homeless communities.
- Riding in trucks.
- Riding in the back of pick-up trucks.
- Hearing different stories from different people.
- Street art.
- The unpredictability of hitchhiking.
- Being so far from the people and places I hate.
An earthquake hit my side of the country the other day and now New York state is one of the potential victims of a very severe hurricane. Every day, the world whispers in my ear, "You're doing it right."
