...instead of a measly RM2K game, this is what it would be like.
Battle system: Before you start a new game you'd be asked to either choose either menu based fighting (Final Fantasy-like) or Action based battles (Tales of...,Chrono Trigger, Valkyrie Profile-like). I thought you could change the battle system freely duing the game, but I dont think that would be a good idea. Also I'd use ToS's experience model so you wont have to spend another 45 hours leveling up a character that you never use but you need to use that character for something right now.
World map: VERY BIG with lots of towns nad landmarks. Also a lot of islands to explore after you get an airship or boat. Also new islands would be added to the map when you beat the game so you have new stuff to do when you start the game over again.
Customization: I'd like almost everything to be edited in some way. Menus, change hair, fur, features to something that you want. I'd also would put a "character name change" feature, but it'd probably conflict with voice acting...
Voices/text: NO RPG should ever be fully voiced, that would be annoying and would make the game lose a lot of replay value. There will be a decent amount of voice acting, and I'd add a feature to turn off field and battle voiceovers if you wanted to. Also the voice actors shouldnt be over-acting slang or really exagerate dialects like in a lot of dubbed anime >_<
Sound/music: Music will be performed by real instruments. Also I would include a Sound Test program and would be present in the main menu regardless if you have beatten the game. Also more music will be added to the list in the program the farther you progress in the game. Beat the game a 2nd time and you get some special tracks. Plus tacks will not be cut out in other country's games (seems that Japan likes to cut tracks out of NTSC and PAL versions for aparently no reason at all). Also the game music will be where they should be, in some RPGs in dungeons the BGM will play music appropreate to the situation. Aome RPGs play a cutesy song in a dungeon where the setting of the story for that dungeon is serious >_<
Development time: The game should take a long time to develop. It took Retro a few month before the Gamecube was ever released to start Metroid Prime and you see how that game turned out. Doom 3 was started in 2000 and took 4 years to be polished. Also our production team will be very tight-lipped until the game is about 80% complete. It's very foolish to announce your game when it's 20% done and then take 4 years to develop it *coughdukenukemforevercough*. Fans who want the game will start to get tired of hearing about it after a couple of years :P Any game made by me if I were a professional game designer would NEVER be rushed.
Graphics: graphics will be on cel style with multiple shadings and great detail in models (much like ToS and not like Zelda:Wind Waker). Backgrounds will be digitized hand paintings (also like ToS). Also I'd add a lot of flashy summons, but if you dont want to see the animation part you could press the start button like Skies of Arcadia did for special attacks (and I love them for that).
Story: Should have lots of plot twists that are logical and not so easy to predict. Having lots of plot twists are very good, it keeps the player more into the story and keeps the story from becomming dull. However someone who dosent know how to put these twists in the right places can ruin the story alltogether. There will be a lot of comic mischeif cause the story shouldnt be gloomy ALL the time :P Also the game would try and make the characters relate more to the player. For example, believe it or not but there were quite a lot of people who actually cried when Aeris died in FF7. That's because the writer of FF7 did a good job in making the player warm up to the characters while playing the game. In laymans terms, make characters that you, the player, would like to hang out with if they were real :P In DEX there is no love stories, I cant stand them >_<
Mini games: Every RPG should have mini games! I'd put a lot of mini games in DEX. However not all of them will fit on each disc, so the games will change when you like switch from disc 1 to disc 2 etc. and if you want to play the mini games in the first disc there will be an "Arcade" feature in the main menu so you could play them, much like Shenmue 2 did.
Systems: considering that DEX will be a 128bit game, they would go to the Gamecube, PC, and XBox. Also feature will vary with systems Why?
Gamecube: MD discs have 50% faster load times than normal GD-CDs (what the DC, PS2, and XBox use) and hold more, believe it or not. This would be my first choice. Also there will be GBA connectivity with some unlockable mini games (like if you're wandering around the street in a town in DEX and see a kid playing a GBA, talk to him and he will ask you to play with him so it's like you're playing the game with the kid).
XBox: This system has the fastest graphic and system speed. The XBox will have XBox Live support so players can face off against other player's teams in an online "colleseum feature". Like if you want to pit your team of Eks, Yin, and Shoko VS. some other person's team of Yin, Yang, and Akemi in either menu based or action battle modes. Also you could co-op with a friend to fight user specified monsters and handicaps if your friend has lower level characters.
PC: Would be the same as the XBox version.
PS2: What? No PS2 version? Sorry, but the PS2 only has it's popularity and it's CPU, the Emotion Engine. It has very limited online capabillities. The graphics of the PS2 are very limited to what it can do. You cant argue with the facts. I'm a person who prefers his game go to a system that can handle my games, regardless of popularity. Go go buy a GC, they're only $99 anyways :P
It's also foolish to keep a game on one system. Cross platform games make more money than "Only for" games.
That's about it. Basicly this RPG's game is made to be played more than once. If you have gotten this far in reading this, wow O_o Then you must like my ideas :P Actually if you have read this far, do you think this would be a game that you would buy? And please be honest.
