So in Northboro we are lacking a real diner to grab breakfast on the weekends. We used to eat at the Centre Cafe downtown but they closed several years ago. That leaves us with Brittany's which is way too upscale, Friendly's which is kinda gross, or going to beyond the city limits without any caffine not a pleasant option.
But wait
tenner or
rockinrobin might point out there is Til's and it is only about 1/3 of a mile from your house. Yes this is true, we did eat there once and it was such an experience my lovely wife still refuses to set foot in the place.
Tils is setup like an old Brigham's Ice Cream shop where all the booths are connected on one side to an aisle reserved for the waitress and the other side reserved for the guest. This fad seems to have faded away about 30 years ago so I assume they must have a hard time teaching new waitresses this system. That would certainly explain that all the waitresses were in thier 80s and looked to have worked their a long time.
Upon entering the cafe we sat ourselves at an empty booth. I think we were the only customers here so we had ample choices. The waitress came over quickly and took our drink order coffee for me and tea for
crpaschal. After getting our coffee we chatted for a little while waiting for the waitress to come back and take our order.
After a while we notice she is taking her sweet time coming back to take our order. I start politely trying eye contact and some hand gestures to get her to come back over all to no avail. I guess I should have been a bit more flagrant. Finally about 15 minutes after delivering our drinks she comes back over. She brings with her a stack of blueberry pancakes omelet and the various assorted sides. I had to explain to her we haven't ordered yet. She gets confused as the order slip clearly has this table number on it and thinks it must have gone to the last people that were sitting here. Then she says "I was wondering why you were trying to signal me".
So she takes our real order I was tempted to keep the blueberry pancakes but we both were in an egg mood. To make up for her transgression she comes back over with the coffee pot and tops off
crpaschal and I's coffee. Astute readers at this point will remember that Chris was drinking tea not coffee. So now she is drinking an interesting blend of the two. After getting the food it turned out to be fairly decent breakfast fare and the rest of our outing ended normally.
Of course from that point anytime I suggest breakfast at Tils the idea is quickly shot down. At this point I can't imagine our waitress still works there. She must be in her 90s by now assuming she is still alive. Don't you think its time to give Tils another try?
