Why oh Why couldn't they have just kicked the field goal and then tried for the touchdown. Not that I really wanted the Seahawks to win or that I even expected them to be able to get the touchdown but I did have the 1,3 square in my superbowl pool and would have won $250 bucks. The one year I get good numbers and still get nothing.
Speaking of superbowl pools I was curious to figure out what the WORST square was in the pool. It turns out there isn't one. I compiled the data for each quarter of all 39 superbowls (my pool pays out smaller prices for the score at each quarter). There are 34 squares that have NEVER won anything. Alternatively the square 0,0 has about a 47% chance of winning something. Predictably the top 5 squares would be 0,0 0,7 7,0 3,0 and 0,3.
For those that have never worked in an office where a superbowl pool is done the rules are pretty simple. There are 100 squares laid out in a 10 by 10 grid. The 0 to 9 x and y access represent the score of the game modulo 10. So my 1,3 square would have won for the final score of 21 to 13.
