The forest was still a foggy dark. The sun was about to rise up above the treetops. All the animals would be out soon, he thought. They had been walking during the night for a couple miles now and she was starting to get tired, he couldn’t allow that to happen. She had to keep walking, as long as possible.
Once and awhile he would hear her cry, a silent sobbing into her chest. He would concentrate on something else though, the birds singing over her sobs. He loathed seeing her like this, one of his favorite girls in so much pain. But he could not let her break the rules and expect to go without punishment. He had warned her in the beginning and still behind his back she had been plotting to escape all along. He still could feel the sharp sting of the hurtful knife she had plunged into his heart when she denied him her love and then attempting to run away.
He loved her! Yet she denied him so bitterly. She would not share in his love or give into the inevitable. She fought him and called him graphic names in which he could not utter to repeat. Still, in the end she would realize that all along she had truly loved him, like the others did. She would regret ever saying she hated him. He was the greatest lover in the world and still she resisted him when all the others gave into obedience. He was Casanova, the great lover!
She interrupted his thoughts by finally speaking after their fight. “Please talk to me.” Her voice was weak and strained from all the screaming earlier. Now she was filled with fear. “Talk to me. The way you used to…please.” Her voice was but a whisper as she pleaded to him. “I won’t be bad anymore. I’ll be good!”
“Yeah? You will?” he wanted to believe her. She was lying to him. He despised liars.
She turned to look at him, no longer intimidated by his gothic mask that covered the top half of his face, only exposing his lips. He wore a black jacket with the hood drawn over his head, he didn’t want to risk being caught by campers and seeing him with his mask, they would immediately become suspicious.
His voice was low and dark, “How can I trust you?”
Her face was wet with tears and smeared with dirt. The dark bags under her eyes were heavy and her lips were chapped and dry. Her face was no longer beautiful like it was when he first saw her a year ago. It didn’t glow with radiance. It was pale and pasty now. She lost a lot of weight as well. She hadn’t eaten the food he gave her. She knew what was inside the food, drugs. The drugs made her submissive and docile as he made love to her nightly.
“I can show you.” Her lips trembled and her body shook of fear from him. He didn’t like when they exposed their true fear for him, he liked it when they loved him. Like he loved them. He couldn’t trust her, but he had to hear it from her.
“Tell me you love me,” he commanded.
More tears leaked from her eyes. “I…I love you,” she said desperately. There was so much desperation and horror in her voice.
Anger jolted him as he gripped the back of her neck and brought her to him. “I don’t believe you.”
She cried out in pain, “I love you!” she screamed to him.
He hated her. He loathed her. He despised her. She lied to him now. He was so furious his heart turned into ice. Whatever she did now, wouldn’t matter. He would kill her and no matter how many times she confessed her love for him or pleas for God and him, he would kill her.
“Of course you do.” He said with a smile on his face, a wicked smile.
She saw the smile and screamed an ear-piercing cry of horror.
He shoved her forward, gripping the bonds on her wrist and neck. She would die out here today because she broke the rules. He warned her. He told her there would be serious consequences to those who broke the rules. He loved her, but she would never understand how much. Killing her was like killing a part of him. But she lied and tried to escape! She would know forever now that she shouldn’t have broken the rules. If only she loved him back. If only…
