I said I wouldn't come back, but I have nowhere else to go with this! (Yeah, I badly need to start an anonymous ranty blog. I just can't settle on a good name. Well hey, the name is the most important part.)
As I was saying.
What's going on in Egypt is amazing. I mean, what all the people there are doing for themselves. Just amazing.
But!
The western newspapers and western governments portrayals of whats going on in Egypt is totally fucking cowardly and disingenuous - but consistent in their way, because of course all these establishment types hate with their very being the idea that people can be free, can organize their own shit without some class of vampires sucking the life and money out of them, controlling their lives for the interests of some elite or imperial power.
At every turn the establishmentarians talk about their bloody precious "chaos" or "potential chaos" "erupting" from "the mob", their "looting" and "vandalism" and vague "violence". The cowardly newspapers repeat these scare words at every turn, calling for a "return to order" without anything about the common people on the street organizing their own defense of their homes and infrastructure. Dear god, imagine if people went and did things themselves without orders from on high! Chaos!
Of course this "chaos" is all projected imagination or, when real, instigated by police/military provocateurs [funny how police/military ID keeps turning up on the people who get caught causing trouble eh?] ... or its just straight up violence from the top - like how protesters keep attacking police batons with their faces and are charged for assaulting an officer. Truly Orwellian.
And this is how it always is, from the Canada-centered perspective here look at the recent shit in Toronto, that shit in Quebec, and then over in London, those bait cars left helpfully unguarded, and yeah, all throughout the recent history of popular movements in a time when the image of violent plebians causing "chaos" must be contrived to create an excuse to crack down.
Well, fuck those authoritarian liars right in the ear - Egypt seems to be overcoming that, and I hope they don't put up with the proposed half-assed lackey government from the worthless dictatorial (former?) VP that has US support. When he said that the Egyptian people aren't ready for a democracy, what he /meant/ was that he wasn't ready to stop being an asshole.
So that aside, what Egypt is doing is a beautiful thing. I hope it spreads, and spreads, and those ridiculous puppet strongmen are toppled one by one to receive the justice they deserve for their tortuous regimes.
... and I hope it spreads beyond, far beyond, but sadly that may take that a little longer.
Ach, I miss this.
