I do love the fact that House wants to see them all. It's so different from his show-character. But well we don't know how he act before the infarction, at least we don't know it exactly. Thanks for the soon and great update. Now I have to be without internet for the next four days. *waves*

I figured that he'd always been sarcastic, but that pain and being in the medical establishment brought out the mean side of his character.

Wish I could be there to hear that jam session. I love the way that you made him more like the House we know as the pain increased. It's fits really well with what we know, based on what we saw in Meaning. Great chapter!

As I said above, I really thought about what might make him into the character we know. Pain can -- and does -- change people. And if he's also working in an environment that isn't supportive, that might bring out the worst in his character.

Years ago, I worked with a personality study (the name of which, alas, escapes me) that not only tried to explain the typical personality traits of its subjects, but also looked out how those people behaved under stress -- and often it was radically different (sometimes even opposite) under stress. I just extrapolated that to the House we see.

I've been having fun with this. Hope it's still realistic, but I do believe that in a more supportive environment, House might behave very differently.

Loving it. Love your observation by Janet, interesting that she thinks it the medical work, instead of the pain is causing the change in his attitude. Also love the impromptu jam session and Wilson polling the floor for a reaction.

I needed to get that idea (about the medical work contributing to his bad attitude) in there somewhere, and Janet seemed like the logical way to do it.

We get a little more insight as to who Janet is, and I like the idea that she's in awe of his intellectual side that can set aside his own fears and pain and focus on the diagnosis. One wonders if this scares her a bit also, as she's suddenly confronted with a totally new side of someone she's spent the last four years with. That's a fair amount of time to get to know each other quite well, and now the foundations may be shaking a little. Will be interesting to see if there is any fallout later.

Would House have been happier as a musician, again I bring back the point, his character seems to live for solving the puzzle, or was that due to lack of expression of self? Pondering the what if's and choices we make in life could lead to a lot of speculation.

The comparisons you use define this version of House give him solidity of character and make for an equally strong individual, that marches to his own drum.

And I must agree with the others, the impromptu jam session is a nice touch :) Eat that Nurse Previn--play on boys, play

It's got to be a little intimidating for Janet to suddenly see this new side to House. She had to have known he was smart -- there's no way he could hide that -- but to watch him in action has got to be a real eye-opener for her. And yet the change in his personality has also got to be pretty disturbing.

I don't really know the answer to whether or not House would have been happier as a musician, but I thought I'd explore one way of looking at it.

I'd be interesting in hearing from all of you on the subject:

Would House have been happier as a musician?

Write back and tell me. If possible, explain why you think so.

"Would House have been happier as a musician?"

I think he would have, he is so gifted in it and seems to achieve so much joy from it on the show (playing music seems to be the only time he is truly happy).
