Dabbling in St. Louis Nightlife: The Fruition of my Labors

Well, Betsy has introduced me to a new fun spot! Helen Fitzgerald's in South County (near the kirkwood target on Lindbergh)!

Last night it was especially "hoppin" shall we say. So much so that a 36 year old man took it upon himself to try and hit on me! lol...of course he does this near the end of the night, when I am supposedly at my drunkest (while I wasn't exactly drunk I wasn't exactly sober either). He comes up to me and proceeds to inform me that he'd been watching me for a couple of hours and didn't think I would ever talk to him. However, he plucked up the courage right before leaving and wandered over to stand next to me at the bar. Why he felt the need to tell me he was watching me for hours I do not know, but that was sort of a red flag right there (somewhere deep in the recesses of my fuzzy, inebriated brain, the red flag was waving). Luckily, Betsy and John were sitting at the bar with me and I consulted them several times about what to do about this older man. He kept telling me how cute and beautiful he thinks I am and how he liked my eyes and can't believe he's actually right there talking to me (cue awkward parade!). He wasn't exactly a looker but my beer goggles were having trouble diserning his physical credentials since he was right up in my business. He was really nice and said he'd love to take me to dinner blah blah blah. Went to Wash U back in the day and now works as an anesthetist (not sure if that's a word) at St. John's. I was impressed he went to Wash U and he at least has a job (and he even introduced me to the owner of the restaurant...at least I think he actually knew him, no telling with these randos).

Of course, being just about old enough to have been my father, I rejected him. But kindly. He told me I'd find a really nice guy someday which I appreciated as I sometimes wonder whether I will ever find a nice, hot, compatible guy. Finding a nice cat is just so much easier...but less satisfying in the bedroom (claws and full-body hair aren't really my thing).

At any rate, at least I'm putting myself out there and exploring what St. Louis has to offer at night (which doesn't seem to be much on a Friday...most places seemed dead). I hope to eventually move to a much larger city, but I might as well know my town and figure out how to navigate it before my roommate visits (since I will be more or less pretending I know my way around it).

In other news, I have crapload of things to do before I depart the states! I have a 500 pager for summer reading (for my senior sem class) which is taking forever to read, I have to learn 6 songs, get my voice back in its happy spot, learn German, babysit, work, pack...egad! And work out so I can seduce a sketchy Turkish man in Germany (or a real German).
