There was a pretty large fire in town tonight. Downtown, every block is engulfed in smoke and one corner is still burning. Every station in town sent rigs down to help put it out, hopefully it's all done soon. There will undoubtedly be a pretty hefty clean up though. I went down there around 8 when we all first noticed that you could see the flames from the house. I took about 10 pictures and just sort of stood there in awe with Ashley, Kat, Fay, and Julie. It was absolutely unreal. I went back there with Sam and Jess around 9:30. We stayed there for about an hour. Jess stayed in the car while Sam and I went up for a closer look. I was snapping pictures and trying to get details in case the Megaphone needs an article on it when this lady, Jodie, is trying to get all of these sandwiches, drinks and various other edibles out to the firefighters and such. So Sam and I volunteered to help her and spent the next hour or so walking around giving the firefighters food and whatever else we had that they wanted and/or needed. It was such a great feeling. I wish I knew how to do more but Sam gave Jodie our numbers so that if there's anything else that we can do, she can get a hold of us so we can go down there and help in whatever we can, clean up, housing, what not. So many people are out of homes now seeing as an apartment building of some sorts burned down. It's just completely unbelievable. It all started with a kitchen fire and then suddenly, three buildings are ablaze and there're fire trucks from all around the county fighting the flames. It was amazing.
Anyway. My computer is still broken so here I am, in the chapter room at 11 or so at night. I should go to bed seeing as I have an 8 o'clock class in the morning and I am exhausted but I can't seem to lay down and fall asleep even though I know I have to.
But I'm going to anyways.
