Have I been hanging around the liberal blogosphere too much? I grew up with liberal parents and now as a college student in New York, I identify myself as a liberal as well. Any conservative would probably accuse me of being brainwashed by my upbringing, but it's just how I see things. In fact, I was in elementary school during the Clinton/Dole election and in the school's mock-election, I was the only person to write in a vote. I wrote in Nader. I was 9.
I spend a lot of time on sites such as DailyKos, Huffpo, Americablog, Pandagon, etc, etc. As of late, I've also been closely following the polls (I know it's early but I've got a soft spot for statistics). From reading the blogs, you would think that Obama was destroying McCain. On a very simple level, it seems that everyday brings some new screw-up or error for our buddy John. Very often, the error is self-acknowleged someone from within the GOP or his campaign will even admit it's bad news!
So I need someone here to set me straight, if that's possible. Am I completely naive still? Am I brainwashed? Am I living in an alternate universe where the Democratic party actually has some shot at taking this thing? Hell, I've donated what little spare cash I have to Obama, but I'm starting to feel it'll make no difference, because I felt like Gore was going to win in '00 (and he might have) and then I felt like there was no WAY that Bush would win a second term after the disaster that was his first...except he did. I'm at my wits end here. If Obama can't take this thing, I'm not going to know what to do.
So somebody, for my own sanity, please tell me why none of what I read on these sites seems to have an effect on the general American public? How is this race still (seemingly) so close?!
