DEAR GEORGE CARLIN,

I MISS YOUR BRILLIANT MIND, BITING WIT, WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR, AND THE HOPE YOU GAVE TO MY LIFE.

THAT IS ALL(well, not quite).

After my parents, you were the single biggest intellectual influence on my life. You fostered my love of linguistics, molded my sense of humor into what it is today, and reminded me that even the mundane little things in life are fucking wierd and hilarious if you just take the time to look again. The world is a less funny place with you gone, but I personally will see to it that at least my kids grow up with you. I would also like to thank you for dying on the 22nd of june, and not the 23rd, as it would have been a fairly ominous beginning to my 20th year of life. I sincerely wish I could have seen you live before you left us all behind. I tried, even bought tickets, but you cancelled your show in austin. You pioneered observational comedy, and your legacy will live on through that for a considerable amount of time. You've been an active professional comedian for longer than my parents have been alive, and were my introduction to comedy. Napalm and Silly Puddy was my introduction to you, and since then, I have watched, listened to, or read everything you've said in public. You are truly a great inspiration in my life, and I'll never forget how you've influenced me. In your memory, my birthday party today will double as an epic George Carlin Marathon. Tomorrow, we drink to you.
