a conversation about books... and things

E: http://www.recyclart.org/2010/09/library-information-desk/
me: but... but... nobody can READ those books now
E: true... so you do it out of publishers' remainders
me: I suppose that is acceptable
E: or zillions of copies of Catcher in the Rye. bleah
me: that would be very fine. or the Bridges of Madison County [Ed note: bad high school English class experience speaking]
me: I have to say that I have found a new respect for Wuthering Heights thanks to Tom Hardy. :P I am so so so silly.
E: never read it
E: wait, Thomas Hardy?
me: no, Tom Hardy, actor.
Elizabeth: like Far From Madding Crowd guy? I would put THAT in a book desk
me: HOT BRITISH ACTOR
me: give me a little credit. you could totally build me a desk out of The Return of the Native
me: hot, absolutely ridiculous, crazy actor. although that may just be being British. he played Heathcliff in a really well-done BBC miniseries. and in the course of discussing it with my mom I had to give her a recap of the story
E: oh
me: you know what cravats do to me. :D
me: those Brontës. sigh. wackos.
E: "You know what cravats do to me" made me snort tea
me: my work here is done. :D

And in conclusion, Dude Watching With the Brontës.

Also, a bullet-point list of things that have happened lately:

- My poor car has a big crunch in her bumper. I'm sorry, Lila! He was parked illegally, and in my blind spot!
- Colin Morgan and Bradley James going on epic Video Quests for Merlin = genius marketing. Somebody really knows their fanbase. Those boys! ♥
- Art class is going really well so far - I am working on a series of limited palette studies based on a slightly spoilery photo from Episode 3x04 of Merlin. The first one is blue-violet. I managed to get the man's face really well from go, but the woman's is more difficult. Wah. She's so lovely.
- Latin continues to be both fun and aggravating. The homework is definitely cutting into time that could be spent doing my hobbies, since really most days after making up my missed work hours, I barely have time to squeeze in dinner and some destress time. But I do enjoy it, and reading is fun, and perhaps after this class I'll keep in practice on my own a wee bit more. I definitely can't take another class next semester (at least not for credit), because ApolloCon will need that time.
- Still addicted to Inception fandom (see Tom Hardy above), loving the crack that's coming out of the various memes, looking forward to having time to finish my trading card series on the characters. One day I'll finish a series fandom project. Really, I will.
- Pondering my fandom holiday obligations. Lots of great art prompts, some yet to come, all hopefully exciting. I wish I had a deadline arrangement that would let me do some of that work in my class (for something with a low rating), but it never quite works out.
- Writing has been abysmal lately. It's definitely the thing that gets cut completely out when my time goes crunch. Which is silly, because it's the most portable and the most flexible of my hobbies. With the exception of study sketching, both illustration and quilting require hardware and space and set-up/tear-down time. I should figure out how to carve part of lunch break into writing.
- My apartment is being taken over by a monster. It's made of paper, stacked on every possible surface, and I have to take time very soon to shred and recycle before something collapses under the weight or the piles shift and bury me in an avalanche of spam mail and catalogs.
- I'm going out this evening! InterClub Happy Hour again, and this time maybe I'll do some homework beforehand, so I can arrive a bit later when there will be people around.
