in memoriam

Feb 04, 2010 20:34

Today was my uncle's Memorial Service. I took the day off and went down to my aunt's house this morning to help out and finalize plans for the service and its attendant multimedia.
After a lot of nervous flailing around, I finally got a speech and script written up last night, and used it pretty much without revision today.
I have been told by several people that it went well.  As is usual with these things, I can hardly remember anything I actually said, but I recall the emotions of the day.
This evening we spent at my aunt's with her guests, many of them relatives I had not seen in a long time.  It was good to catch up with them, to be social with my cousins like when we were children, to play with their kids, to greet old friends. I wish it had been for a happier reason.
Rest in peace, Uncle Kenny. You are sorely missed.
