Happy 35th, Roe v. Wade

Jan 22, 2008 13:24

It's a good thing to keep in mind: the issue of choice is not just about abortions. The right-to-life movement has taken stands and actively supported legislation and lobbying against abortions, contraception (a bit of a contradiction, wouldn't you say?), health education (not just sexual health, all health), children's health care, women's heath care, single parent support systems, child care, and emergency medical intervention.
Do we really want to live in a world where every woman who miscarries is also investigated for murder?
Do we really want to live in a world where women are denied access to basic health services for fear the word 'abortion' may be spoken in the vicinity? (Too late, we already do. But this can change.)
Do we really want to face a future in which hundreds of thousand of women are killed or maimed in illegal abortions?  This happens in the "Global South" all too often now.

Let's get educated. And let's take note when the debate changes. (The first one is especially good.)

There he plans to join Georgia Right to Life to lend his support, as well as the focus of the national media, to HR 536. This legislation, also called the Human Life Amendment, is a state constitutional amendment that reclassifies the most effective and popular forms of contraception as abortion.
