Luggage recommendations

Those of you who travel a lot - what do you look for in luggage? I'm thinking of buying a new suitcase for our trip next month. My current bag is really a large carryon, and I always have trouble packing for a whole week.

One of my big priorities is to get something that's NOT BLACK. I want a garish color that I can see on that baggage claim a mile away.
