Angels and Demons, by Dan Brown

I took a vacation day so I wouldn't have to shovel out my car today. It's having issues starting when it's so cold.

Time for my next book review:

There's not much I can say about Dan Brown's work that hasn't already been said. He's one of the most popular writers around, and also one of the most reviled. It's true, his writing can be stilted, his characters are two-dimensional, and his plots (though well researched) are farfetched. Still, he's good at building suspense and writing plot twists, and the historical details have enough truth to them to be entertaining.

I admit to enjoying lowbrow fiction. I read the way most people watch TV - for entertainment, and to relax, and not for any deep and meaningful philosophical musings. Dan Brown is perfect for this kind of reading, for those days when I want to be swept away into another world, without the bother of details like reality, or the tying up of loose ends. And in that sense, Brown is a great writer. He lets us all get away from our real lives, and live somewhere more exciting for awhile. No wonder he's so popular.
