It's weird being back in Grass Valley. It never feels quite like home anymore. And Davis has never quite felt like home. It's always interesting to be back in Grass Valley just to see how much has changed in the last three years since I graduated high school. There's barely anyone I know left here at all. It's not bad though. It's been nice to get away from things for a bit. I've discovered some guitar stuff I wrote back in the day that I haven't used yet so that's good. And I re-taught myself to play "Stars" since I stumbled across the recording on my extra harddrive so that should make Nikki happy. I also stumbled across Evan and my's old demo from Senior year and boy does it suck. Heh. I'm really happy that that recording saw an extremely limited release. My guitar playing was terribly lacking any kind of time scheme whatsoever and I seemed to like playing #5 wayyyyyyy too freaking fast. I still want to do something with the music to #5. It definitely has some potential, it just needs some lyrics and a cool melody. That's the one song Evan did actually write some halfway decent lyrics to, but I certainly can't use them now. On my extra harddrive, I found this tune titled, "Sightings" that I think Evan wrote some lyrics for at some point but we never recorded it with them mostly because I remember I didn't like them too much. The guitar part definitely needs to be used though so I'm hoping to get in a writing session with Nikki when she gets back.
Today was pretty nice. Got some reading in. "Teahouse of the August Moon" is truly a hilarious book. Check it out sometime if you can find it. Cleaned out the interior of my car. Got a haircut. Watched "The Office". It could shape up to be as funny as its British counterpart, we'll see. I just got through watching Conan in which there was a cool clip from "Sin City" (one more week to go). Now I think I'll read some more of a good book and maybe listen to some tunes before heading off to sleep.
PS I think one of the biggest reasons that Grass Valley no longer feels like home are the choices for sleeping arrangements.
Choice #1: The Floor
Choice #2: The Couch
Also, if you happen to be between the ages of 19 and 65 there really isn't a whole lot to do in this town at all. Well, there is the watching of paint drying. That's always been a reliable countywide pasttime along with taking a trip to Record Connection and laughing at how ridiculously they mark up prices on everything. $20 for 1 CD? I really wonder how it is exactly that they stay in business. Oh yeah, that's right. Because they are the only record store within a twenty mile radius of here.
