I've been talking in my sleep.

Haman Karn from SRWUG@ RP

((A little extra I wrote, but really is just some solo RP.))

Haman sat bolt upright in bed, panting, and hot. She looked around the dark cabin as if she where lost, until she looked down and saw the blonde man sleeping beside her.

It's alright... It was just a dream.

She sighed aloud, as even still her heart hammered in her chest.

Wandering fingers reached out twist one of Char's unruly curls, even in the darkness it looked like spun gold.

In the distance there was the distinct sound of a bell, ringing. Loud, and rumbling.

Haman turned quickly, looking around again.

How was that possible? They where on a ship, in space! There where no bells here.

Again it sang out it's haunting song.

She turned and put her bare feet on the cold metal floor, her eyes wide with confusion. Pulling her crimson robe over her night dress she got to her feet, silently moving towards the door. As she looked through the peep hole there was nothing-

no wait!

Something moved fast past the view finder, and Haman threw open the door at once.

Out in the hall... there was no one. She looked left, and right, and left again.

I know there was someone out here. Probably just one of those kids playing a trick on me.

It was only when she turned to go back into her room did she see it again, the figure in the corner of her vision, darting around the corner with a giggle.

“Hey. Who is that?” She called, taking long strides down the hall. Children show know better than to wake the Regent from her sleep!

Only laughter answered, a girlish giggle she Haman knew well.

“Mineva? Is that you? You know better-” But when she turned the corner, there was no one there...

The laughter echo through her ears, it seemed to float in from every direction. And there again was the bell.

Haman turned around in place, confused and frightened. She put her hands to her head, to try and shut out the sounds, but they would not be subdued.

“You can't shut out what you are, Haman.” A whisper came from just beyond her shoulder. “You can't shut out what you've done.” That voice, she knew it too. Marlene.

“But you're dead.” Haman's lips moved against her will, she spoke aloud, her words bouncing off the metal corridors.

“Am I? You seem to hear me just fine...”

“Stop it!!” She shouted, her voice cracked as she turned in place again, and stumbled a few steps, her back against the wall.

“Are you afraid of the truth?”

“You'll never be my mother.” Came another voice, tiny and small, and filled with hatred that cut her to the quick.

“Never.” Her real mother chorused in,a voice unheard to Haman for 8 years now.

“You'll never be respected, You're no leader! You're a monster! And I'm ashamed to have you as a daughter!!”

“No!! Stop this!!” The voice of her Father, made her tremble uncontrollably, hot white fire raced through her skin as she fell to her knees.

“You will never find the happiness you seek...” And this voice, a distance echo of a pressed off memory. What was that woman's name, the only that Char has so loved so long ago...?

“You're a MONSTER!” The last word rang through her mind over and over, it seemed to echo on through infinity, reverberating back again and again. It seemed to join with the bell, until every strike of the the sound rim cried out..

A monster... a monster.... monster...

The light above her head flickered out, and for one terrifying moment, she looked up into the embodiments of the voices, long dead, and rotten.

Haman would have screamed, but her breath caught in her throat, no sound would come as her bare feet pushed against the floor frantically. Each desperate foot fall rang in time with the bell's toll, and no matter how fast she ran, it never seemed to diminish.

Tears watered out her vision, and she slammed head long into the wall, missing the turn she meant to make entirely.

For a moment the world was white, and the sounds in her head where blotted out by the high pitching ringing of pain.

When she came back to herself, Haman had already braced for the voices and yet...

“Hello?” She called out tentatively, rubbing her forehead, and trembling.

There was no answer but silence.

Blessed, lovely, empty, silence.

Haman pressed a hand to the wall, the cold of it felt welcome, stable. The other hand came out to join it, and then she leaned forward pressing her breasts and stomach against the wall, and at last her cheek.

It would have looked strange, if anyone had seen it, Haman Karn appeared to be hugging a wall. With her hair in curlers, and her robe hanging off her shoulder, she breathed in deeply the comforting cold of the spaceship hull, and therefor, the endless space that surrounded them, that gave it this deep and unshakable chill..

“It was... only a dream. Yes, yes a dream... that's all...”

She repeated it to herself like a mantra as she shuffled back to her room, rubbing the very real knot on her forehead. She slipped back into her quarters, and back into bed. She curled herself into Char's body, her icy hands on his skin roused him slightly.

“You're freezing Haman...” He pulled up the blanket and wrapped his arms around her, before falling back into his dreams.

He was so warm, under the comforter. His body radiated heat like sun warmed earth.
How appropriate... Haman though to her self as she closed her eyes, and breathed deeply, trying to carefully throw herself off the edge of the waking world, and return to sleep.

'I know , I know they've all been talking 'bout me
I can hear them whisper,
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me.
Out of all the hours thinking, somehow, I've lost my mind '
