today in the everyday

Favorite-newbie, who I shall call Freddie, was on opening shift with me today. It was also a manager meeting day, which means that all the kitchen bosses were in, but none were in the kitchen helping me & Freddie to prepare for opening, so it was all down to us.

All told, I think we actually did pretty well for ourselves. Kodiak gave us a cursory growl for not getting all the noodles done at once, but honestly I think I made the right call there - we wouldn't have been ready for the mini-lunch-rush otherwise. And as I was finishing them up later he actually tossed some approval my way, so yay for getting on better footing with the wenchmaster I was starting to think had it in for me. Bosslady & I also had a luvly chat in the kitchen during the afternoon lull - she seems really interested in the community group I volunteer for, as she does some charity stuff herself and would like to get the restaurant involved somehow, say through offering cooking packets and food delivery :3 Could be a good idea for the neighborhood circle, and maybe a feather in my cap if they are considering me for a future formal hire **crosses fingers**

After an 8-hour shift (Bosslady is upgrading a few of my shifts to run longer so I get more hours but still have some days free), I tube'd it to a board-gaming group what the boycreature found as something we could do together for fun & profit socializing. It is a HUGE group, and we actually spent all day Sunday at a pub playing with zombies and elves and of course going through bottles of wine (>w<) I like this meet-up thing. We are gonna try to make as many of the Sunday ones as we can, 'cause the venue is less cramped and it's relatively closer to us, and also the Sunday crowd seems a bit more outgoing.

Yes, I just realized, we are indeed Old People. It's pretty rad.
