study break

Coming up again on one of those dates of which I have been known to say "After the [n-th] of [month], I'll be available for shenanigans / less of a hermit / more free to get crackin' on [hobby A] and [interest B]." Yep, it's the dissertation presentation (this phrase should be turned into an awful rap somehow... GET ON THAT, internets.)

Was up til all hours tweaking the powerpoint, then e-mailing it to director this morning so she can save me and everyone in the programme about £10 in library print fees, and tonight I am trying to drill some kinda coherent flow of ideas and mouthwords into my brain to flesh out the slides. I'm going second tomorrow, which is actually pretty much my ideal preference of order, 'cause I don't have to sit in the media room all day chewing my lips over how bad everyone else makes me look by comparison. Granted I will probably still do this, but it's a little less nerve-wracking when it's retrospective anxiety.

Mostly nervous over Super Awesome Law Advisor's response, as some of what's in my presentation is new news to her 'cause we couldn't set a meeting last month. Also I am gonna have to come up with a nickname for her that is not quite so long. I am kind of really inclined towards "Wonder Woman."

Speaking of pseudonyms, Nana O. is doing her utmost to both get me in tip-top shape for my first kitchen-wench boss fight (a recipes test I gotta take in order to earn the shop t-shirt and a share of tips) and keep my work hours under the legal limit. She let me go a couple hours early today, and I was quite glad of it - busy afternoon shopping for stock in Chinatown, running supplies back and forth between our branch and the main restaurant, and getting my learn on over a hot griddle top striving to create the perfect eggy-fried-noodles. My third and final attempt was the one I got to eat for staff dinner, and, I gotta say, the best. If I can just do better at committing the menu details to memory, I should be able to level up by the end of this week.

Got another morning shift Thor's Day, which'll be the first time I actually take morning buses from my house to work; lunch and tea dates for Friday; scifi TV binge on Saturday until my evening shift, and one last evening shift Sunday. I've had to turn down two volunteer jobs this week, but hopefully after I become a fully-fledged wench I can push for one or two hours' slack more consistently.

Is it weird that I feel way more like a working woman now than when I actually had a full-time job with fixed hours in Japan? :^a

university, names, i'd rather be drawring, workstuffs, learnings
