Okay, for the next almost-six months, making my own lunch and toting it in to school is no longer just a matter of avoiding salt-bombing my body with whatever snackyfoods I scrounge from Circle K.
Got an e-mail update about a March service trip I was all revved up to go on. For not-even-a-week and less personal travel expenses at the end of the official build-a-house, hug-a-kidlet stuff, the cost is gonna be around 170,000 yen. That's...way more than I usually put into my savings account at the end of the month. That's a whole lotta grad school classes that could go unpaid-for, if I do make it into the UK with their non-EU tuition hikes.
Luckily I have gotten this information ahead of time, SO if I shoot for a goal of 40,000 yens set aside per month, I should break about even. Between August and September I saved nearly 180,000, so it's definitely not un-possible, but winter heating bills and holiday travel lie between me and March. Starting today, air-con's gotta stay off for as long as I can creatively manage around this totally uninsulated living space; groceries have got to stretch farther but spoil less frequently; and goddammit there'd better not be any more surprise maintenance fees that the 4 people living in this two-story building have to split between us and cough up within a week of being told the water tank needs cleaning, hurrrrrdurrdurr 30,000 yenz plz B:<
