so...

i don't know if it is because school has started and i'm not in it or if it's the girlfriend's influence or what, but i've been all kinds of motivated lately and actually have a lot of things going on in my life.  i'm still not writing much, but i'm in a writer's group, and will have to produce something soon or they may crucify me.  i bought a fiddle a while back and had hardly used it but recently went to my first lesson and have practiced twice since then, thoroughly destroying some classic celtic tunes.  and mostly, i have been sticking with my cycling and am currently on week 3 of an 8 week training schedule to prepare me for a century (100 mile) ride, and though the ride itself isn't until april, i can and will be riding the route in about 5-6 weeks, on the last week of training i will ride a total for the week of 170 miles, which is small potatoes for cyclists but is mind boggling to me .  i am still a nonsmoker and have cut back ( to twice the level of a normal human) my drinking.  i have changed my diet a good bit towards healthier, more organic, and less meat, and as a result of all of this, i weigh more than i've ever weighed (i top out at about 220).  also as a result of all of that, i hope to lose 35 pounds by april 1st, back to close to army weight.  i have written out a budget, though i don't know if i can stick to it, that would allow me to save some money towards moving or whatnot, and the goal there is to have a thousand dollars by april 1st, without neglecting rent or bills or good food.
my long term goals are the iffy-est.  undeniably i want to move to and spend some time in portland oregon, but i also am entertaining the thought/worst fear of teaching some foreign folks in a foreign land.  i would immediately choose south america if i could get paid enough to save money, but would settle for the ever ready asia, though not china, if that's what it took.
my longest term goal is to get accepted to a master's program that pays my tuition and a living stipend, while i go to school and also teach some classes.  my other longest term goal is to put together all necessary gadgetry for a bicycle touring expedition, and to spend a goodly amount of the time afterwards teaching junior collegiates, saving money, riding my bike through every country imaginable, and writing about it and other things.  if i ever complete all of these things, i hope someone remembers this and throws me a party.  or i hope that if someone reads all of this, they throw me a party just because.
