maybe i should post the satellite pics of my base. i wonder if i can go to jail for this. ah well.
so this is iraq
here is the interior of iraq. getting closer. look there's baghdad!
this is the base itself. everywhere around it (being green) is civilian farmland. it was very pretty and lush outside the base in this part of iraq.
this pic is the interior of the base, zooming in on my tent. the angle shows the farmland outiside, the canal, and further back either the tigris or euphrates, cradle of civilization right there..... while we were on duty in a guard tower in 130+ degree weather with all of our gear and flak jackets on, we would watch dogs and boys swimming in the canal. i think they did it on purpose.
so here's my block. and there in the corner is my tent. it is under camoflage netting. seven months of life on a cot, most of it spent in that tent. i did what i could and made a porch so i could sit in the mornings and drink coffee, smoke cigarettes and read books, like i'd do at home. its actually pretty easy to live with nothing. as long as you don't have easily reachable options to compare it to.
and this is the fuel farm that we built and worked at. each bag is like 20ft by 30ft and filled with fuel. makes for great wrestling or sleeping. all of them were connected by hundreds upon hundreds of hoses and pumps and other junk that really really sucked putting together. those little guys in line on the right are full sized tanker trucks, about 30 ft long or so each.
there's my tour and some pictures. enjoy!
