Our car died.
Something came loose in the engine and caused damage to one of the cylinders such that the engine would need to be replaced. And of course that would be more than the worth of the car.
We have some options, none of them ideal. This is definitely not something we want before a cross country trip, but at least it's slightly better than during the trip.
