A day to remember!

Aug 20, 2009 19:57

Today will go down in history as the day when I beat the computer at hanafuda!

I'm so happy! I may suck at go, but I kick some ass at hanafuda. And hanafuda's just as cool as go. Or maybe even cooler!

Yeah you have. Masatakas bro played some in SG chapter 5. I think... Except he was playing Hana-awase, and I'm playing Koi koi.

Here's a flash Koi koi application, if you want to try it. I have to warn you though, it's terribly addictive.

It's terribly entriguing to try to figure out how to play a game when you don't really know what you're doing and the commands are in Japanese... I just read a short wikipedia article and that didn't help at all. XD

As a rule, the cards with an animal or a banner are better. Whenever you get a combination, you can either take the points and end the round or "koikoi". Koikoi'ing is basically doubling. You get better points if you get another combination before the opponent gets one. Because if the opponents beats you to it you get no points.

I'm totally addicted, and plan to get myself a hanafuda deck so I can play for realz. If you like, I can type you a up a basic set of combinations and corresponding points.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I'm mainly trying to figure out what cards match when. I understand the basic rule of matching either the flower or the month, but sometimes they don't take a card (and get put on the table as a discard) when I thought they would match. This is the most confusing part to me so far.

Is there a site where we could just play together? That would be ideal.

Oh and I totally just saw us sitting on the floor of a ryokan playing this game in March when we finally get some time to hang out in Japan. Drinking Sake of course, how fun does that sound? XD

Oh yeah! Then you can wipe the floors with me at it! Sake and Koi koi, the great Japanese tradition. Maybe.

I'll get to typing. It was pure hell when I first tried playing for me too. I couldn't figure why the cards wouldn't match and why I got no points.

I'm trying to look for a site. Didn't find one last time I tried, but who knows. XD

Think I pretty much figured it out... though I don't 100% understand all of the pairings yet. However, I did manage to beat the computer in about 30 minutes. ^^;

You know me too well... @o@ That's an impressive graph! You've gotten some great hands and won every round.

I'll have to study the rules of Koi koi ve-ery carefully and incorporate every obscure combination just to last a round against you in March. Or just get you really drunk before we play... ^.^;
