"You've been working pretty hard, huh?" Zero surveyed the elementary school PE setup, smiling. He didn't know any more about sports than X did, so he was mostly willing to go along with whatever everyone else had planned.

"I guess so. I want to make sure everything goes smoothly, and... well, if I can't contribute knowledge, then I'll just contribute effort." X shrugged, idly turning a croquet mallet over in his hands.

"...You don't think we're actually going to need these things to play anything, do you?"

Zero took the mallet from X, giving it a couple Z-Saber-esque swings.

"...Probably not, I'd guess."

"I didn't think so, either. If there's a sport out there that involves swinging hammers, then it's probably one we're better off leaving alone."

Come to think of it... maybe he should have checked the equipment room for helmets. They might be coming in handy sooner or later.

"Yeah. Might want to start off slow. Vile's coming, right?" he asked. He knew the whole point of the sports was to help Vile work off some aggression, but that didn't mean he was any less worried. The guy was a walking arsenal, and Zero knew all too well how aggression turned into stupidity. He was still working on that one.

"It's just a game, Zero. You don't think he's going to take it that seriously, do you?" Considering how reluctant he'd sounded about showing up, X wasn't expecting a great deal of enthusiasm from Vile. But... then again... this was Vile they were talking about. He could probably turn reading a bedtime story into an act of carnage. "...Maybe we'll start him off with a beanbag or something."

"He takes lots of things that seriously. Don't worry too much about it though. I can play a game and keep an eye on him at the same time. You just do what you came here to do." He gave X a half-smile; he was being a little cocky for someone who'd never actually played any sports, but it couldn't be so engaging that he wouldn't be able to keep Vile in check at the same time.

Typical Zero, wasn't it? He wouldn't think twice about shouldering every burden in X's life if he could. Needless to say, X was going to be keeping tabs on Vile too, but... it was nice to know he had help. "Thanks, Zero. If he starts acting up, then we can just stick him in time-out for a bit." That was the sports term for it, right?

Time-out? It sounded more like something you put bad kids in, and that would be bound to piss Vile off. "I don't know if that's the word, but sure."

Kanji was pretty impressed by the variety himself. He certainly didn't watch sports, but he'd played a few in PE just like everyone else. His intimidating stature alone had been enough to get him picked first for teams on a regular basis, not that he had anything resembling skill. So he waited by the doors, folding his arms and trying to look tough.

X was totally impressed with the dazzling display of toughosity. But then again he thought a guy with booblights was the coolest kid on the block, so take that with a grain of salt. He greeted Kanji with a not-quite-as-tough grin and a wave. "Don't be shy! You're right on time."

"Shy? Nah. Just... no one's here yet," he explained, walking over to take a closer look. "Really brought out all the stops, huh?"

"If you're going to do something, then there's no point doing it halfheartedly." X shrugged. Then, with just the faintest hint of worry, "It's not too much, is it? You know about sports, right... so am I way off the mark?"

"No clue. I don't know much outside what we did in school. You can just put shit away if it's too much for people."

"Yeah, that's true." X nodded. "I doubt we're going to need all of this to play anything. If you did some stuff in school, then you must know what some of these things are for, huh?" Some of the equipment was pretty self explanatory, sure, but other things... X couldn't begin to imagine what kind of sport was played with 30-pound balls, hammers, and plastic scoops.
