Rodos (6 August 2014)

Rodos (or Rhodes in English) after Santorini, Crete and Corfu is the fourth most "popular" Greek island in terms of visitors. It is large enough not to feel crowded with a string of spacious resorts strung out all along its beautiful coast.
The main town on the island is also called Rodos and we took a tour that after a walk around the Old Town drove us (55km) to the second major town towards the south of the island called Lindos.

Rodos town is the "oldest inhabited medieval town" in Europe.

The Street of the Knights, as you cam see, leads directly to the port. Although we got on a coach to drive us around the town (and eventually to Lindos) the Old Town is an easy walk from the ship, with many interesting sights along the way.

view of St Paul's bay from the acropolis of Lindos. the walk up the to the acropolis wasn't too tiring but it was a hot day and plenty of water was required. there is a medieval castle to walk through and of course views down the coast of Lindos to reward you for your labours.

A (modern) statue of Cleobulus, a 6th century BC poet from Lindos, with the acropolis of Lindos in the background.

If I were to visit Rodos again I would spend more time getting lost in the narrow streets of the Old Town.
