Last Exile - Fam, the Silver Wing, episodes 1 to 4
There are at least 3 reoccurring characters from the original Last Exile. It's been so long since I last watched it, I had to read the Wikia entries to refresh my memory.
The newest Last Exile is a continuation of the first, but, from what I can gather, it's set at least 10 years ahead from where Last Exile ended. There's a spin-off manga series being run, which bridges the gap between the two anime series, but only the first chapter has come out, I think.
I'm not really sure how much information was given in the last series, and also in this current one, but the Wikia entries gave a lot of background information, which might have come from additional published material (e.g. "ship log books"). In any case, the background information is quite interesting, and helps put a lot of the events from the current series into context.
I'm hoping that the plot will become a bit clearer in the next episode, because while you can see where this direction is kind of heading, there are a lot of unknowns....
Otherwise, it's still a nice series to watch, but plot development might be dragging its feet a bit too much for some people.
