Joshua screwed up his face is disgust as a discordant twang resonated through his psyche. With a sigh, he stood up and whirled to face the door, stepping through layers of the world as he did so he ended up precisely where he wanted to go.

Neku's room.

"Really, Neku," he drawled, face still disgusted even as he was inwardly delighted by Neku's twitching jump at his voice, "you don't have to kill cats to make music."

Neku blinked sullenly up at him, picking up the papers his jump had scattered. "I have no clue what you're talking about. I was working on my homework."

Joshua sighed expansively and spread his hands. Neku was hopeless sometimes, he really was. Adorable, but hopeless. "Yes, but you were thinking about doing something contrary to my designs. I can't let that happen, you see."

"You know, sometimes opposition is good for you."

"Neku, do I really have to lecture you about music theory again?" Josha asked.

Leaning back in his chair with a challenging smile, Neku said, "I'm sure there's nothing I don't already know, Composer. I did study, you know."

Tsking, Joshua sat down on Neku's desk after he cleared off a small space. "Opposition is something completely different than what just happened, Neku. We have to be in complete harmony in order for Shibuya to prosper." Neku opened his mouth, but Joshua tapped it shut with his hand, lingering on his skin just to see Neku flush and pull away. "Discord is what just happened. Two things or more that just don't work together. The kind of melody we're developing can't have that."

"But you said earlier that opposing melodies and ideas can help keep a song fresh and new," Neku protested, still trying to battle his blush down.

"Ah, no. The thing you're thinking about is dissonance. Deliberately shifting things to not quite sound right before you resolve them to the perfect tones. Songs wouldn't have anywhere to go without dissonance. But discord? No." Joshua stood, crowding into Neku's space, facing those widening blue eyes with a smirk on his face. "Lesson's over. Fun time now."

He leaned down to press a kiss into Neku's cheek, dodging through all of the orange-haired boy's squirming and avoiding easily. As he drew back, Joshua smugly surveyed the resurfacing blush on Neku's face and began to step through the layers again.

A sharp swat landed on his backside as he stepped forward and Joshua almost fell over in shock. He looked back over his shoulder at Neku. Leaning back in his chair, Neku grinned at him, waving.

"Bye bye, Josh."

Neku's room faded to Joshua's own and the silver haired Composer felt a smile stretch his lips.

Well.

This promised to be fun.

With that, Joshua went back to work, humming under his breath as he began to figure out how to resolve this little particular bit of dissonance on Neku's part.

And what a delicious resolution he had planned....
