I'm more than a little annoyed with my health insurance company right now.

No, I'm not going to sugacoat it. I'm angry, even though what I expected was what I got.( Potential trigger warnings ahoy )

I hear ya. I'm pretty sure that we take the same survey at work, only with a nebulous offer of being able to save up to $205 on insurance. But you never find out how much, if anything you end up saving...

And I'm with ya. It's a stupid survey. It pretty much told me: "You're fat. You're depressed. You know how you get un-depressed? STOP BEING FAT! Oh yeah, and since you don't know what your blood pressure is off the top of your head, it's probably GOING TO KILL YOU even though you've always had ultra-low blood pressure, which runs in your family. Did we mention that YOU'RE A FAT, LAZY COW? Because YOU ARE. And that's why you're depressed."

Which was, you know, a total revelation. *shakes head* ridiculous.

Also, I really love that picture of you too. You're beautiful.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's pretty much the sort of stuff it said.

As if I don't know that I have Death Fat! I've never looked in a mirror or stepped on a scale or had anyone tell me I'm a fatty fat fat! HOW ELSE COULD I POSSIBLY STILL BE FAT? I must not know!

I adored that picture of you, too. My first thought when I saw it was "Holy crap, Zen, you are drop-dead gorgeous."

And good on you for fighting the hate. I have an idea of how much work that takes, and you have my utmost respect for pushing through it. GO YOU!

Aww, thanks. For the first time in years, I loved a picture the moment I saw it. Usually I have to look at them for a good long time to stop actively hating, and it just clicked that it's an awesome picture of me.

New mission: take more pics.

Welcome to Government. If it aint broke, fix it till it is. Remember, this is the same government who applies weight and measurement standards to it's soldiers that render half of the body builders in the army "out of shape." He can pick up a car, but he doesn't make weight.

Morons.

It's not just stuff in the USA, sadly. But I see exactly what you mean. It's sickening that the military would apply that sort of standard without any extenuating circumstances involved.

Sure, he's heavy, but he can bench press your mom! He can pick up a car! It's all muscle!

Nope! Must be a fatty.

Most commanders tend to... ignore those results and fudge things. But it's that government "one size fits all" approach to things. That's part of why I'm libertarian. Top down governance tends to assume we all wear the same size pantyhose.

One size only fits people who fit the arbitrarily decided one size. You can't have a single standard for all people, because not all people fit the single standard.

Gahhh.

I'm passing the stuff you linked on to my wife. You're a lot further down the road to self acceptance than she is. Bastards don't make it easy, do they?

No, they really don't make it easy.

I've been reading what you and Stef have been going through, and I really feel for you. I hope she can learn to accept and love herself. I mean, I'm not there yet, but I'm closer than I used to be.

fatshionista is what got me into fat acceptance. Gorgeous fat girls in awesome clothes, what's not to love?

Shapely Prose has a lot of helpful links to other FA blogs, and the fatosphere feed, which can be nice.

As far as health stuff goes, First, Do No Harm has some good things to check out too, even though it doesn't update that often.

It's a long, slow process, but she's been making a lot of progress, and I'm insanely proud that she's even got this far. I'll pass everything on to her, although I'll also have to remember to step back and give her time to read it at her own pace. A lot of this still seems to be physically painful for her to work through.

I'm also sending it to my sister, who seems to have hit puberty and gone very much the same way Stef did. See if we can't stop some of this before it happens to her too.

Also, have you seen http://www.makeyourownjeans.com/? Everything I've seen says they're pretty damn good. We're waiting on an order at the moment.

((hugs)) You are beautiful! And those surveys are teh suck....as are a lot of doctors. I had an endocrinologist give me a talking to because I gained a couple pounds. I gained weight because I wasn't doing triathlons anymore (it was november or so). He asked me if I had considered a walking program...I laughed at him.

We only have one life, and one body....loving it the way it is is hard, but the alternative makes for a crappy existence!

Lol, walking program.

You gave him the 'OH NO YOU DIDN'T' look, I hope?
